Family Medicine Residency Clerkship
It is Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center's desire that all medical students have a rewarding clinical experience. Based upon its commitment to training Family Medicine Residents, Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center recognizes the importance of providing organized clinical opportunities for medical students under the supervision of members of the medical staff.

Our Family Medicine Residency Clerkship is a direct patient care clerkship which offers medical students the opportunity to accompany residents and faculty in an inpatient and ambulatory setting. The clerkship integrates concepts of resource utilization, continuous quality improvement and clinical effectiveness into the curriculum. Based upon our community's demographic profile, issues related to minority and underserved populations are our highest priorities. This clerkship is facilitated by family practice and internal medicine attendings.

1) Inpatient: Students work with the Primary Care service residents and faculty caring for patients. Students are responsible for one to three patients and for at least two case presentations a week. Students are responsible for one call night per week.

2) Ambulatory: Students work in the Family Health Center under the supervision of family medicine faculty and residents. Students will see a select group of patients in this outpatient setting.

3) Lectures: Faculty lectures are provided to both medical students and residents on a daily basis. These sessions provide an interesting and educational forum for resident and medical student interaction.

Our program currently has agreements with UCLA and Western University of Health Sciences. These students are given priority in scheduling clerkships; occasionally, a rotation may be available for other students.

(Please note: There are no observerships available)

Prerequisites:
a) Completion of Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Pediatric clerkships/rotations.
b) A 3.0 grade point average or a minimum score of 200 on USMLE Part I.
c) Demonstrated fluency in written and spoken English.
d) Currently a third or fourth year medical student.
